Download preloaded poi database

Last edited by timp; 3rd November at PM. You have to navigate to get to the good. So, if I am understanding this correctly I never realized it I guess the POI's do not change very often on the water liek they do on the roads, but I'm still surprised that updates aren't included with each new updated chart product.

Any idea how often they are updated? Does garmin update basemaps on the units? Originally Posted by ddabcd Last edited by timp; 8th November at PM. Some restaurants have been closed more than 2 years near me and are still included in the most recent map. I don't think they make any changes once they are programmed to a map.

When in doubt, a smart phone to get a current address works wonders. I still very much prefer a standalone GPS unit over a smartphone in the role of navigation, but the smart phone does work better for some things. All the more reason that Garmin should allow the Smartphone link to work with some of their slightly older units to compensate for the gaps in the POI database.

Forget the rest, just come here. To keep track of all places would be one big database. Since I have no smart phone I do not know if it has been removed or is still there. Businesses do change and one has to almost keep a daily record of them. To pay a couple of hundred dollars for an electronic device and expect it to be updated every quarter with every opening and closings of those establishments which were chosen or asked to be part of the built in POIs seems to me to be unreasonable. Garmin gets the data from Navteq and Navteq collects the data from multiple sources.

When an establishment goes belly up, one of the last things they might think of doing would be to inform Navteq that they were out of business. If you're referring to the one located at 22nd Street, Google has indeed already updated the maps to show that it's permanently closed. There was no other Garmin should take a cue from POI Factory and adopt the "crowdsourcing" approach to keeping their data up to date.

Maybe offer a reward system with points towards Garmin gear to folks who report incorrect data that can be verified and appoint regional administrators to handle different portions of the map. If done correctly it could go a long way towards keeping things current. Navteq Nokia has actually done a fairly decent job of keeping up in my area.

But if you live in a relatively rural area, you won't really notice many changes if any from update to update. Log In Sign Up. Home » Garmin talk. Login or register to post comments.

Re: Aardvark. Millions Business come and gone everyday, it is hard for anyone to keep up. It is very behind, as it is hard to keep up to date. I was wondering the same also.

Seems to me that they should update their POI's. GadgetGuy wrote:. Speed2 12 years. DorkusNimrod 13 years. Speed2 wrote: What poi's? Aardvark 13 years. David King 9 years. CraigW 13 years. Speed2 wrote Biggest thing is entering good search info to get best results.
