Mcafee with msn premium

I normally use Firefox browser and tonight I was downloading a McAfee update when they asked me to log in with my MSN info and install a plug-in for my "netscape" browser. I use the McAfee firewall and do not enable the windows SP2 firewall.

I read somewhere that most commercial firewalls offer more comprehensive protection than the Windows firewall. The free Zone Alarm firewall gets high marks too. Personally I would never just use the Windows xp sp2 firewall. I currently have zonealarm pro and love it.

Have used it for many many years with no problems. I need to update however and am going to try the free McAfee firewall since it has been getting very good reviews. I will immediately go to Steve Gibsons site and check it for stealth on the leak tests there. IF it performs well I will keep it and see how I like it. NOthing lost since I would be changing to a new zonealarm pro version anyway and if I don't like the McAfee I will just get the ZA which you can get at a discount through verizon.

When comparing AV programs, all I look for is application stability and ease of use. I don't find much value in comparing their AV capabilities.

In my experience, people aren't infected by new viruses; they are infected by viruses where definitions have long been published by the AV manufacturer. It's the user who fails to schedule updates. In the case where I did discover a new variant, McAfee and Symantec both failed to detect it anyway TrendMicro succeeded. And if you're one of those who keep your viruses updated, chances are, you also keep Windows updated, have a firewall and are cautious about the attachments you open That's not to say I don't use one.

I chose it because it installs and runs well on my system and was free. Now, comparing Symantec with McAfee based on other factors. Not only was it tacky and non-intuitive, it caused problems with our Win98 installs. I haven't tried McAfee since then, so things might be better now.

Symantec Corporate, at least has always been stable. My only problems were due more to Windows service packs than anything else. If it doesn't bark, keep it and stop paying for Symantec. If there are problems, revert back. Sign Out Sign In Register. Latest Insider. Check out the latest Insider stories here.

More from the IDG Network. Microsoft, under attack, releases Blaster security advice. Microsoft could face security failure liability. Both are included free with your MSN Premium membership. You can either get MSN to show a very small thumbnail of the pop up or remove it completely so you can never see it. One of the main advantages to signing up to MSN Premium for me was being able to sign up a total of 11 accounts, all of which can login to MSN Premium wherever they like if they have an Internet connection.

Other additions this time round come in the form of additional components like Microsoft Picture It! Express 9 a photo editing program which lets your organise your photos on your PC for use with your MSN account.

It allows you to edit photos by removing red eye and such like, and lets you print out your photo collection, so another good addition to MSN Premium and again — any member of your account or even users of your PC can download and use it. We also get the online version of MSN Money Plus, this lets you organise your finances and also helps you pay those bills.

The service keeps up to date itself too, this is done in the background for you when you are online, although it pays to have a fast internet connection as the downloads, like Picture It Express!

How does everything compare to AOL? Final Comments. Overall MSN has a good package for the money that a family might pay for a good internet services provider like MSN, especially with all of the additional accounts you can add, so that you can make use of MSN no matter where you are and have e-mail accounts too.
